Welcome to Cross Stitch by Za

Za

Hi, I'm Leasa (Za for short) and I'd like to tell you a little about myself and my cross stitching experiences.

I've always been interested in making things. My mother was very crafty (she made costumes and all sorts of stuff). I did a little embroidery and clothes designing etc. When I first came across crosstitching patterns the idea really appealed to me, however, I could not find any that truly inspired me. Most were simple or funny designs (not my cup of tea I'm afraid).

Then as I was browsing through a major department store (in the haberdashery section) I came across a cross stitch of a dragon guarding a castle. WOW that was really up my ally (and was probably the hardest cross stitch I have done so far). Instinctively I bought it and all the necessities I needed. Unfortunately being new at this game I got the size of the fabric wrong (sometimes they put design size, sometimes they put finished size - it's pretty hard to figure out).

I worked on this dragon and castle (Dragon Isle) for a few months - cross stitching - easy - make a cross. Then came the problem of the canvas (fabric) size. I had not centered the design. Just gone up an inch or so and started at the bottom. By the time I got to the top it dawned on me that I was not going to have enough canvas to finish the project - so I sat down to think of a remedy.

I added the required amount of extra canvas to the top and cross stitched it in. The canvas was black, so I just cross stitched black on black. It made the project longer but I was determined to finish it.

Now it hangs proudly on my wall and is commented upon time and time again.

And that's how I got bitten by the cross stitch bug. If you have any questions, comments or other feedback please feel free to email me.
